Elder Nomination

RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN ELDER

The responsibility of every individual member of the church is to follow the vision and to accept leadership from the leaders God appoints in a church. If a congregation selects and appoints men who are qualified according to the Scriptures to serve as elders, it is the responsibility of the congregation to follow. No qualifications would be needed if just any man could do the work. Elders are uniquely accountable to God.

Elders make a valuable contribution to:
The moral and doctrinal soundness of the congregation.
The scriptural soundness and effectiveness of the congregation’s worship and prayer.
The heartbeat of the congregation’s involvement in evangelism.
The motivation and zeal of the congregation for the work of the church.
The peace and unity of the congregation.
THREE KEY AREAS OF LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY.

Accountability for the Lead Elder (Senior Pastor)
The Elder Board serves as the accountability team for the church’s Lead Elder.  They have the responsibility to be prayer warriors and armor bearers for him and his family.  Elders commit themselves to undergirding the ministry, the health, and general welfare of the Lead Elder. The vulnerable and intimate access to the Pastor’s heart is one of the reasons why the Elders are all men.

To undergird the spiritual direction of the Pastoral staff
North River Church is a pastor lead, elder guarded church designed to give our pastors the freedom to lead NRC in directions that best meet our mission and values.  The Elder Board supports and maintains accountability with the pastoral staff to help NRC achieve its mission and values.

To serve in overseeing the financial and administration areas of the church
The Elder Board serves as the financial and administrative body of North River Church. They oversee all financial areas of the church and serve as the administrative arm of the church. The Elder Board handles all major administrative decisions and reports annually to the church body. (Celebration Sunday)
